Most of these fall into the "Mom, you're crazy. I'm not listening to you, and I'm not doing what you tell me to do either." I hope when she starts smiling that there will be more "I'm so cute and well behaved, and I'll always be a good girl."
Wishful thinking Ashley.

Visitors
Now that we're home and Claire's getting bigger by the day, she's started to have visitors. Time to meet fam and friends!
Courtney came up for a long weekend visit last weekend. We lounged around in sweatsuits and cuddled with Claire. Courtney was awesome and cooked us 2 delicious dinners!
Bubbie and Beth also came for a quick visit that Sunday. Claire finally got to meet 1 of her 3 great-grandmothers. Yes, the girl is destined to be spoiled.
Yesterday, Julie and Leyla came for a visit before they move halfway across the world AGAIN! We're so sad they're moving back to Tokyo, but at least they'll be home for the summer in time for playdates, pool trips and fun in the sun.

Week 1
I promise this blog won't become exclusively about Claire. But we have done nothing else this past week other than focus on her and her needs. We're learning her cries, her patterns, her facial expressions, and her signs. We're learning about ourselves too - how much sleep we really need to function, how much we're willing to let her cry it out, how quickly changing a nasty diaper becomes no big thing, etc. I'm sure it will continue this way for another few weeks, but once I'm cleared to drive and travel again, the Emala family adventures will once again resume. Until then, everybody loves cute baby pictures right?
Week 1
On her way to her first, non-hospital, pediatrician visit. She gained 1.5 oz from her hospital discharge weight of 6 lbs 9 oz, so up to 6 lbs 10.5 oz. The pediatrician spent a good amount of time "building us back up" as Jason called it. He really only examined Claire for about 10 min of the 1.5 hour appointment, but it was just what Jason and I needed.
Sleeping soundly in her pack n' play in the blanket Bubbie made for her.
They say nap when the baby naps so I did
On Saturday, Jason's parents Jim and Charie came up to meet Claire for the first time. This was the only picture I got before my camera died, but I assure you Claire was just as taken with her Nonna as her Nonna was with her. I think she was just hungry here.
This is the look of contentment after a marathon breakfast session. I kid you not, my little girl is an EATER. I wonder how long before her little thigh rolls start appearing?

Claire Mason Emala
Our little girl is Tater Tot no more. We're proud to introduce you to our daughter, Claire Mason Emala, born December 6, 2010 weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce and measuring 18.5 inches long.
I'm not going to lie, labor was rough. The induction was hard on me and Claire, and after her heart rate started dropping with nearly each contraction, the Dr and Residents decided it was time for a c-section.
Here are a few of the pictures we took during our stay in the hospital from the night of the 5th of December until the morning of the 9th
Here she is after getting cleaned up - so swollen poor thing
Meeting for the very first time. Jason got to see her in the operating room, but I was strapped down to the table getting stitched up, so our first meeting wasn't until I was in the recovery room.
Her face has changed so much already from Monday the 6th
After our first breastfeeding session. That's relief that Claire made it seem SO easy
Jason quickly established himself as the go to soother and bouncer.
I know the hair she has now is likely to fall out, so we wanted to make sure we documented her mohawk
Snuggling
Her eyes were so swollen initially, that it took a while for us to get a good look at them, but now I'm pretty certain that she has Jason's eyes. They may not be the same color as his though, but only time will tell.
My Mom came by the hospital for a few hours on Wednesday, and we had lots of fun dressing Claire up and doing a photoshoot. The professional hospital photographer also came by later on that night, and we got some GREAT shots.
Holding the advent calendar box from the day of her birthday that her Nonna made
And we can't forget that Claire's got some Jew in her too. She arrived on the 6th night of Hannukah, but it's pretty obvious this bib will fit her MUCH better next Hannukah - at this point, it's as long as her entire body.
Grabbing onto fingers already
We were discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning. Both Claire and I got the go ahead to go home, but since the high on Thursday barely made it above freezing, we were sure to bundle Claire up extra good. This hat and the matching onesie came from our London friend, Azizi.
We call this her Yoda:
Waiting for Jason to pick us up with the car. They make you ride in a wheelchair - you know I would have walked if I could have
Homeward bound!
Jason and I are both pretty amazed at this little person we've created. We think she gets cuter by the second, but that's parents for ya. I'm not quite sure how she fit inside my tummy, but we're beyond thrilled that she's finally here and the VIP of our new family.

Here We Go!
Little Tater Tot has been served an eviction notice. Mommy is tired of being pregnant and the Dr. won't allow me to be any longer.
At 41 weeks and 2 days or 9 days late, we will be heading to the hospital for an induction. We report at 8pm this evening to get the ball rolling, and then start pitocin on Monday morning when my Dr. is on call to deliver.
Jason eloquently reminded Tater Tot this morning that today we show her that, contrary to what she has obviously thinking for quite some time, we are the bosses of her and not the other way around :)
One last look at the belly:
It's hard to believe that once we leave the house tonight, we'll be coming back with our daughter!

Tis the Holiday Season
One of the benefits of marrying someone who was raised in a different faith? DOUBLE THE HOLIDAYS :) And thanks to an army of Mandel and Fleming elves over Thanksgiving, we are all decorated for the season.
Nothing goes together quite like Menorahs and Advent Calendars. I even said the Hannukah blessings (although I admit I was a little rusty and had to look them up)
The tree:
And finally our stockings hung on the mantle with care instead of a shelf or an entertainment center. Tater Tot as her own mini stocking of course.
