Get in Shape Girl

Claire and I go to Baby Gym on Wednesdays.  Claire really got her workout in last week with the walker.

Burkey Love

This weekend, the Burkeys came to town for a visit.  Unfortunately, they only really got to hang out with 2/3 of the Emala family.  Poor Jason had to work ALL weekend, and we only saw him at dinner on Saturday night.

After a late night arrival on Thursday evening, we were up and at 'em early on Friday morning like only the parents of young children are forced to be.  Jason headed into the office, and after a necessary Starbucks fuel-up, the rest of us drove up to Eagle Rock Reservation.  Essex County just dedicated a memorial to 9-11 there, and I had heard there are great views of NYC too.  We wandered around for a bit, and then hit the road for some shopping for the kiddos.

After lunch at home and naps, we took the girls to the playground to burn off some steam, and then a walk through town on our way home for some exercise for the adults.

Afternoon storytime

Sesame Street

We kept Friday low key and on Cece and Claire's respective schedules because we knew we'd be asking a lot of them on Saturday for out trip into the city.

We drove in to meet Jeff and Livy's friend, Sara, and her husband for lunch in Chelsea and some hanging out time in The High Line park and on the roof of their apartment building.  In the afternoon, we braved the crowds of Times Square to check out the Toys 'R Us with the carousel inside and to say a quick 5 minute hello to Jason.

Fun times with the drum before bed

I cooked up a feast of eggs, pancakes and bacon for breakfast Sunday morning and then the Burkeys were off on their drive home.  Jason once again headed into the office for the day, so Claire and I decided to go for a hike in the woods nearby to get some exercise and fresh air before we settled in for some Sunday Funday Football :)

Fun in the Park

Claire and I try to play outside a little bit every day.  She loves going to the parks around town - swinging and watching the big kids in the playground.

Now that she thinks she can walk, we do a bit of practicing while we're there too.  The playground turf is very spongy and forgiving, so it's a good area to give her some independent standing while I take pictures of her cuteness.

Littlest Terp

This weekend, we took Claire to her first Maryland game.  We were on the road by 7:30am to make it in time for the noon kick-off.

Somehow, we made it to College Park in 3 hours.  I was not driving.

We parked, and made our way over to the Stadium Garage to have a mini tailgate with Megan and Liam.

Rubbing Testudo's nose on the way for good luck

You can't tailgate without a beer in a koozie.  It's a rule.

Last time Megan and I were at a football game together, we were both VERY pregnant.  Now look at these two mini-terrapins.  Liam is 1 month younger than Claire.

Claire was SUCH a good girl in the game.  The noise didn't seem to bother her at all.  She took a nap in the Ergo during the 2nd quarter, sat on Jason's lap during halftime and ate her lunch of sweet potato and yogurt, and then cheered the Terps on during their 2nd half comeback.  Go Terps!

Central Park

On Tuesday, Julie and I took the kids on another city adventure - this time to Central Park.  We had intended to go to the children's zoo in the park, but the line was crazy so we opted for the playground instead.

While we waited for the Eichs to arrive, we did a little staring people watching (like mother like daughter)

While Connor and Leyla ran all over the place and Julie chased them, Claire played crawl/pull-up all over mommy.

We met Andrew for lunch at Brother Jimmy's.  Jason had too many work calls to join us - booooo.  We were so busy managing kid chaos at the restaurant that none of us felt the earthquake.  Julie and Andrew were not amused that the ground shakes in New York as well as in Tokyo.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't feel it.

Claire could have cared less

BFF

Claire's best friend in Montclair is named Wesley.  They were born a day apart.

Grubb

Now that Claire has embraced solids after a slight delay, she's making her preferences known when it comes to her favorite flavors.

Likes:

Pretty much all the fruit she's tried so far:  apples, bananas, prunes, pears and raspberries, peaches, and blueberries

In the non-fruit category: Oatmeal, sweet potato, carrots, yogurt.  She freaking LOVES carrots and ate almost the whole jar at one sitting

Dislikes:

And when I say dislike, I mean she looks at me with a mix of bewilderment and hatred as to WHY ON EARTH I would put something so nasty in her mouth

Spinach and potatoes, rice cereal, peas, puffs

The verdict is still out on zucchini.  We're going to try it mixed with banana this week - apparently it's a yummy combo.  Also in the line-up for new flavors - chicken with sweet potato, avocado, and broccoli.
